Good Book, but expect to bring other references during the exam.

I just took the last PE exam and found this book to be helpful. You'll really need to buckle down and read through it though. If you want to pass, I suggest bringing a minimum of three reference books. This book, Hiner's book and the ASCE 7-05. I brought the IBC but didn't have to use it. This book along with Hinder's had most of the references that I needed. Some questions required the ASCE 7-05. I didn't have the ASCE 7-05 :(

In any case I was able to pass by studying through this WHOLE book and Hiner's WHOLE book. I didn't take any classes.

Powerful and Stunning sequel

Wow. It is difficult to know where to start with this review. When Bared to You released, I loved the book, but I had questions as to whether Eva and Gideon would be able to turn their attraction into a lasting relationship. One thing was made clear, whatever would come for Gideon and Eva, it wouldn't come easy.

With eager anticipation and a healthy dose of curiosity I began Reflected in You. I read the whole book in one sitting. Reflected In You grabbed me, sucked me in, pulled me along an emotional roller-coaster, and left me in awe. Readers, if you sit down with this book hoping to walk away with that blissful, romantic feeling then this series may not be for you. Gideon and Eva struggle. Their relationship is plagued by their individual insecurities, communication breakdowns, and the demons of their pasts. However, the rawness of the emotions between Eva and Gideon is striking. One minute I was convinced that they would never be able to make it work. A few minutes later, I was crying and hoping that they could just keep it together.

Reflected to You is a book that stands out in it's genre. I am convinced that part of the reason this book is notable is because of the realism of the story. This book, this series, does not read like a fantasy romance. The issues the characters face feel real, the emotions they deal with and turn to feel real. The characters actions are understandable, in their own way. The attraction and chemistry between Gideon and Eva heats the pages. There is no question that this book is a smoking hot read with powerful, emotional, dominating sex. However, Sylvia Day makes it clear, there is much more to this mesmerizing story than sex. Gideon and Eva both have to deal with the ugliness that has plagued both of their lives and deal with harsh realities and nasty truths that they would rather stay hidden. The powerful, emotionally-charged sex between them can bring them together, but it could also push them apart.

Eva is very definitely high-maintenance. She needs security and independence and her trust is not easily gained. A stunning realization (for me) in this book was the realization that Gideon is so much like Eva. They both need something from the other person that is the hardest to give, trust and truth. There were places in the book where I could guess what was to come. Nevertheless, I was still floored when these things actually happened. There were places in this book where my own heart was breaking for the characters. Even with the gut-wrenching emotions, I was very pleased with how the characters began learn and grow. They both make plenty of mistakes, especially Gideon with his refusal to openly communicate. However, they do begin to learn to make concessions for each other and learn more about each other throughout Reflected in You. As I have said, nothing comes easily and there are always consequences.

Reflected in You got to me. I felt like I was on this journey with Gideon and Eva, my heart breaking when they were sad, rejoicing when they were happy, feeling frustration at the difficulties. It was not an easy book to read, but I loved every minute of it. Reflected is a book that will stick in my mind for a long time; I am sure to read it over and over in the future. The story is far from over though, they have much to work through and even more issues to uncover.

Gideon and Eva have an addictive relationship, they are addicted to each other, for better or for worse. As for me, I am addicted to their story, their journey through dramatic highs and lows. I am once again eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. Keep it coming Sylvia Day, I can't seem to get enough.

Better than Bared To You - Not at all like Fifty this time

Yes I read the whole book in less than half a day - I will not give away any secrets of the book in this review.
I couldn't put it down. It was so intense and made you want to turn the page to see what was going to happen to both Gideon and Eva next. At times my heart ached for both of them. I love how the author brought everything together in the end. And yes we get more of a glimpse into Gideon's problems. But more important we get a good feeling of the intensity of their relationship. I am very happy that the author wasn't replicating anything that resembled Fifty in this book. This was her own work and was very well written. Her attention to detail is much better than EL James. I have to say at the end of this book I think Gideon is hotter than Christian Grey....
Now this has me waiting for the third book until December.....

In many ways, Gideon and Eva are unlikable characters. Gideon's issues with the need to control are creepy. Eva's desperation to hold onto Gideon takes away her respectablility. This erotic romance somehow turns into a bit of a mystery with Gideon's bizarre actions, mixed signals & toxic secrets.

Day does a fine job of wrapping up the events of this novel while leaving the readers wanting more of Gideon & Eva's rollercoaster relationship. In my opinion, this saves the book from a two star rating.

Absolutely Wonderful!!

I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this book. I have been in business for 10 years and I have a MBA. This book was tremendously valuable to me. I like how the authors put a marketing campaign together in 30 steps. Some steps were not covered as well as others, but it gave you enough information to do your own research if you wanted to use a tactic in more detail. I have used many of these steps over the years and I really like the idea that they were all introduced in one book and in coherent logical steps.

I particularly like using the first few days just to get you and your employees in a marketing frame of mind. One of the hardest things that I have found over the years is to get your employees to recognize that your business is a money-making proposition. This book gave me numerous ways to instill this doctrine in the workplace and I am still using many of them. I must confess that I also work in an Engineering company and I have used some of the concepts just to get people motivated to do their work properly. Marketing a good product can be easy.

I can just say that I give this book an enthusiastic thumbs up, five stars and I plan to evangelize about this book to other business owners as well as continue to use some of these concepts myself.

The phrase “you cannot judge a book by its cover” is perfect for this book. At first glance I was sceptical, perhaps the title was just managing to convey the wrong impression. Maybe it was the 30 chapter, 30 day-style as I’ve suffered far too many “self help” and “teach yourself” books that promise the earth and fail to deliver in the past.

As you go through this book it grows on you. Guerrilla acceptance perhaps?

The book promises to give actionable marketing habits for today’s aspiring marketing “guerrillas” in a manageable manner. I personally find such an approach gimmicky and less attractive but this might be a matter of taste. The actual content, when you come to go through it, is more important. There seems to be a seam of gold running through the book and when I did feel some stuff was irrelevant, superficial or just unfocussed it was soon replaced by something that did grab my attention.

This is a book that feels like it is always giving. It can be as “basic” or as “complex” as you want it to be and it seems to act as a great springboard to further thought, reading and action. It feels that it can be suitable for the absolute beginner who has to start thinking about marketing and the more experienced marketeer might find nuggets of good information at the same time. Just looking at the chapter titles can show some of the diversity of this book: the purpose of your marketing, competition and research, positioning, niche marketing, integration, identity and branding, business networking and strategic alliances. There is just a bit of a nagging feeling that towards the end the authors started to flag as some of the remaining chapters began to feel less focussed, relevant and slightly padded.

Yet on the balance of probabilities there was a lot more “plusses” than “minuses” (perceived or otherwise). I enjoyed the style and approach and felt a connection that I was initially sceptical towards. The relatively low price point for this book means that you only need to get a couple of “a-ha!” moments or action points and this reviewer contends that this book is not exactly short of these!

relatively a small book for that price.. I was disappointed by the online access, old fashion looks like in the snapshot picture, non compatible with phones and tablets, needs flash player, some questions will keep coming, and some never come up.. however, I like that questions are related to clinical practice..

Questions are of a fairly high level of difficulty, answers provide adequate explanations, could be more extensive at times. Devdutt Patnaik is a master story-teller no doubt. He narrates mythological stories in easy and simple to understand words with apt and crisp illustrations along with the text. The two books “Jaya” and “Sita” that I read, showcase his amusing takes on mythological stories.
With a limited knowledge of Gita and its verses, I wanted to read Devdutt Patnaik’s version. I finally could lay my hands on his recent offering “My Gita”. After reading the first few pages I realised that keeping in mind to not ruffle any feathers of vigilante moral brigade of the country, he has titled the book as “My Gita” and reasoned that it is not the translation of much revered original text but his understanding of the most popular book of Hindus. “Let my Gita inform your Gita” he says.
He has attempted to simplify by not writing it in sequence as the original book but has reorganised it according to themes. The book is divided into eighteen themes like the concept of rebirth (Atma), our deeds and their reaction (Karma), our conduct (Dharma) similar to the eighteen chapters of The Gita. The book also has a brief history to understand the timeline when the original text was written. Citing examples from other beliefs and faiths, namely Jainism and Buddhism, the author has brought out difference in meaning of words like soul and atma, moksha and nirvana.
The Abrahmic and Greek concepts have also been cross-referenced throughout to emphasise on different thought processes like the concept of rebirth and gaining knowledge rather than changing the world and placing one’s value in the achievements of the lifetime.
Author has paraphrased the verses in simpler words to let each person understand as per his or her own capacity. So in a way Devdutt Patnaik’s Gita has managed to inform ‘my’ Gita.
Though author has tried best to simplify, but the book is not an ordinary read to breeze through. With lot of philosophy involved, at times I got little confused and my attention was lost and that is the reason that the book needs to be understood in an un-hurried way. Those who have read the original verses of the The Gita may not completely agree with the author’s ideas.
Though I find it easier and faster to read stories in English but somehow for this book I wished it was in native language Hindi to feel closer to and understand the words deha, atma, samvad, vivad, yoga, viyog, dharma etc.
And yet I would read this book again at much slower pace to understand author’s viewpoint properly.
