About the Author

Born in Taipei, ShaoLan is an entrepreneur, traveler, and writer. She has written best-selling books on software, and her first internet venture became a major player in the Greater China area in the late 1990s. After moving to London to pursue studies at the University of Cambridge, in 2005 she founded Caravel Capital, which invests in young technology companies. ShaoLan is a member of the boards of the Saïd Business School of Oxford University, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Asia House, and the New School Network (an organization backed by the British Government promoting educational reform). She is also the author of Chineasy.

I have been struggling ttrying to learn and right Chinese. I've bought numorous books and have tried learning in various creative ways. However, nothing compares to how fun and easy it is to learn Chinese with this book! The pictures and instructions makes learning Chinese enjoyable! Highly recommended!

this book is so amazing!!! i've been learning characters so quickly... the only downside is Im not as familiar with the pronunciation but that's okay. I don't think both books are necessary though... pretty much the same thing.

Difficult to get through

I am an avid book reader, and I love to read books! This book however, is a few years old and a bit difficult to read through sometimes. It was written by a professor who taught a class on Science, Technology, and Society, so they are very knowledgeable. However, they don't exactly bridge the gap between people who have never read on this subject before, and the material they need to learn. I recommend the book simply because it is a requirement for many classes, though if an updated version of this with less abstract and more poignant language was used, I would be much happier with it.

This book takes an interesting topic and makes it pretty boring. Additionally, much of the technology discussed is woefully out of date, as this book was published in 1991. I would not mind a newer edition if it could be made more pertinent to the state of science and technology in current society.

About the Author
Judith von Halle, born in Berlin in 1972, attended school in Germany and the USA and subsequently studied architecture. She first encountered anthroposophy in 1997, and began working as a member of staff at Rudolf Steiner House in Berlin, where she also lectured. In addition she had her own architectural practice. In 2004 she received the stigmata, which transformed her life. Her first book was published in German in 2005, and she now works principally as a lecturer and author. She and her husband live in Berlin.

Geraldine McCaughrean has written over 160 other books, including A Little Lower Than Angels, which won the Whitbread Book of the Year Children's Novel Award in 1987, A Pack of Lies, which won the Guardian Prize and Carnegie Medal in 1989 and Gold Dust, which won the Beefeater Children's Novel Award in 1994. She has written retellings of notoriously tricky classics including El Cid, the Epic of Gilgamesh, Moby Dick and The Pilgrim's Progress. For young readers not yet ready to tackle Homer in translation this prose version is a superb introduction to the epic's most stirring episodes. McCaughrean writes in an alliterative prose which honors the poetry of the original. She pumps new life into the tangle with the Cyclops, the lure of the Sirens, and the final smackdown on Ithaca when a weathered Odysseus teaches the loutish suitors a thing or two. Seventh graders here have really warmed to this commendable retelling. Our ancient history curriuculum has certainly benefitted from its inclusion.

The Real Percy Jackson!

This adaptation remained true to it's original and yet was told in a way that my boys, ages 7 & 9, could not get enough. I've been reading the Percy Jackson series to them and then started reading this one. They loved to hear where Percy's adventures had originated and compare tales. I wish I had read this to them first. Excellent!

Imagery, Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole Galore

The disclosure of the publisher "Puffin" rightly gives the fact that this is a child's version away. Yet, the prose of this text is not condescending. I love the use of imagery, similes, metaphor and hyperbole; this read is a treat for all ages, as it inspires the imagination in ways the original text may not for lack of so much detail. I enjoy reading the different versions of they Odyssey- analyzing the differences and appreciating the variety of interpretations is an exercise in and of itself.

An inspiring and absolutely true story

I just finished reading this book cover to cover in a day. It was definitely too good to put down. Benny Hinn did a wonderful job telling his life story, including the trials and the happy times. I think the book was an inspiration to all, that not only does God really perform miracles, He loves His children deeply, and is always faithful. I so enjoyed reading about Pastor Benny's visions and encounters with the Lord. I noticed that throughout the book, Pastor Benny would take the time to give God all the glory for His miracles. What a humble man of God Benny Hinn is. Perhaps that is one of the reasons God can use him so much. I think this book reads very well, and if you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?

The bible warns us of exactly this....many will come in my name and be false prophets....and many will come to me saying "lord, lord, we performed many miricles in your name, and i will say..depart, i never knew you"...i can sun benny hinns so called ministry in one sentence.
