Detailed Overview

Being interested in reading processes, especially in learned languages, this book came to me with some potential. It was potential largely fullfilled.

"Interactive Approaches" deals a lot with the theory, such as various models for reading, (the Stanovich Model gets a fair airing), but that is also counter-balanced with a great deal on the implications that are there for teaching. There is also some discussion on the reasearch that has been performed on readers and what the results have shown.

The book is a series of essays written by various people in the linguistics field, and they have some very interesting things to contribute.

In short, I have found their ideas and comments of immense value in my own studies. This would make a good reference book, though I am not sure anyone would want to read it from cover to cover. It is a good book that gets you into some of the more contemporary research on reading processes.

My Students Love Side By Side!

These two books are very good.
They are easy to understand, and I love teaching from these books.
The "Plus" version is particularly interesting, with the added instruction and conversation pages at the end of each and every chapter.
The important thing is that my students enjoy learning English from these books.

First off, I will be reading this book again and again. I really appreciate the format wherein you have one subject and several authors writing on the subject; it gives one an opportunity to see through their eyes, their experiences and perhaps more easily grasp the concepts. I purchased this book looking for insight into why I might feel this surge of anger at times and I got far more than I had even hoped for. It tackles many aspects in very effective ways. I have almost serially recommended the book to others, it is remarkably helpful. Well done...much appreciated.
